Kyrie Update on Amazon and Smashwords!

Hey everyone! I’m happy to announce that ‘Blue Crow Rising’ is back up on Amazon and Smashwords (Available HERE on Smashwords, soon to be availableon Amazon), updated with the new character name!

For anyone wondering, Kyrie’s previous name was Kuryo, which is the ancient Korean place-name for Korea. It was the closest written version to the name I’d heard in my dream, but it wasn’t pronounced the same way, so I’ve changed their name to be ‘Kyrie’. Hopefully it will stick!

As for any general news, I woke up this morning with another dream idea for Kyrie’s story! Excited, I sat my bum down and began typing – and it seems that there’s a follow up story to Kyrie’s saga, but before the Chaos series? Hmm.. I’m curious to see where this one will take me!

I’m also hopefully going to do another author video in the next day or so, hopefully today actually, and so we shall see how that goes!

Do stay tuned for weekly updates on Kyrie’s story!

Wishing you all the best ❤

HAPPY SCREAMING!

*screams incoherently*

You know when they say that dreams *can* come true? Well a major one of mine just did!

Ladies and Gentlefolx, I am SO FUCKING PROUD to announce that Farfadel will now be sold IRL in a Queer Bookshop, namely the fabulous ‘Philly AIDS Thrift @ Giovanni’s Room‘!!!!!

Giovanni’s Room is an amazing bookshop with a whole wealthy smack-gob of history behind it, as well as being a thrift shop (we all know thrift shops are the best!). These amazing folks have agreed to sell Farfadel’s magical story with you all, and I couldn’t (really!) be more excited!

So what does this mean? Well! If you live in the states, you can order from them at this link for a Tale of Two Queens and this one for A Tale of Adelaide and Shadow! If you already have a copy of my books, and want to support them directly, this is their donation link.

But what else?! I am just SO excited, y’all, I’m thinking of doing some sort of a giveaway! I’m thinking some free coloring pages, some artwork, SOMETHING to celebrate and raise the volume on this awesome shop! So if you have an idea of what you’d like to see done, let me know! And if you know of a local indie shop that you think needs some Farfadel in it, message them, and let me know about it!

And finally, thank you all SO MUCH for your support over the years. It means the world to me!

Take care ❤

ANOTHER DREAM!!! (SPOILERS)

Lo! Be-holden! Y’all know that when I mention dreams – character lives are about to be fucked up, haha.

And that holds true for this time! For (LO!) I had a dream wherein (drumroll) a certain character woke up in the wrong body. As in someone else’s body. As in – they didn’t die. As in… am I far enough down that the preview won’t show this writing? Becauuuuse -> Kuryo’s story might be making a comeback, y’all!

Now, trust me, no one is more sick of the loop-de-loops of that story than I am. I’m almost ready to just chuck the whole thing from the tip-top most of a tower, but hey. I’m stubborn and I really like Kuryo and Chaos as characters. I keep telling myself (as in, today) that at worst this is all just more rough drafting and * eventually * it will make some sort of sensical thing. I hope. I really, really, hope.

I mean, I really like those characters. It’s just – the story derails from me and I feel like I get lost in the plot. If only I could finish the damned thing, sort it all out, and make it make sense. I’m sure it would be a blast, once it’s properly polished! But, I derail myself.

What happened in the dream? What can we expect? Well, the jist of the dream was ‘Kuryo wakes up in someone else’s body and has to deal with adjusting to that person’s life’. Like, wow. Not too drastic considering his story. But it would mean he wakes up in another of the five Kuryo’s bodies. And does it mean the evil stabber gets his powers? I considered that last night, and it came to me in my sleep that she (the god-slayer/stabber of Kuryo) would appear, and make attempt #2 at the whole murdering thing.

But in the meanwhile, there’d be this whole ‘Kuryo adjusting to his new life’ phase, which I honestly thought could be cute and charming. Or it could be boring. Either way, there’s a new girlfriend involved, university life, and a whole ‘was that real or did I dream that whole thing while I was in a coma?’ thing.

What else has been happening in my writing life? I had an idea the other day (while being unable to sleep) that it could be really fun to write a gay romance, with the main character having schizophrenia. So the next day, I sat down to try and write it. But (LO!) the main character was not schizophrenic but rather had DID (ba-dum-tiss!). Which, if you know about them, they are completely different things. DID is pretty badly seen, so after debating to myself about whether I’d write it or not, I figured ‘what the hell’ and asked around if anyone I knew had DID to help me as a reference. Well. Almost 6? 7? people came forward from various groups I’m in to offer and help. So now I feel like I should write the book, just because these people seem to want it. Or at least they want to help write it. So, I’m going to be trying to write that, which is really daunting, to say the least. A big challenge!

Speaking of challenges (my last point of the day!) I apparently succeeded in my portrayal of an intersex character! I won’t tell you the details, but there is an intersex character in my latest Farfadel novel, and my sensitivity readers LOVED them! They said I aced my representation. SO I’m feeling pretty capable and happy. Honestly, I know portraying an intersex character is not the same as a mental illness/disorder, but it makes me feel like I can manage. It makes me feel powerful, in an author-y sense.

Oh, and (the real, really, final last point) – I have a sort-of manager now! I found a fellow pagan who was willing to help me advertise and market myself slowly, along with some merch to go along with my stories, and so … hopefully there will eventually be a more organized version of me as an author? I probably won’t say too much about this, as it’s rather private, but I am excited to get help organizing myself! And wouldn’t Farfadel merch be great? Imagine the possibilities!

Anyways, that’s that. I really hope y’all have a lovely day/evening ❤ take care y’all!

Another Strange Dream

Greetings, earthlings! How’s everyone doing? I’ve been doing good. Writing has been going well too! I’ve been busting around 5,000 words a day in my fantasy novel. I even finished the first novel in that series and was trying to start part 2. That was going well too, until I hit a wall last night. Ah, I told myself, it shall sort itself out. I will sleep on it!

Well, you wouldn’t believe the dream I had! Basically, I dreamed about another story involving pilots (a recurring story dream for me), mixed in with Ranger’s story – and the urge that I had to stop writing my fantasy novel and switch to THIS ONE.

I woke up very confused. What was this ‘other’ story? I was sure I had already begun it, but just couldn’t remember it. It was just on the tip of my brain!

So, this afternoon, I checked my files. I actually did have an older story about a pilot based on a dream that I had typed out, but had never gone further on. And that was it. No other stories. I’d completely dreamed up another story.

Presently, I’m really not sure what to do! It feels like Chaos’ novel is on a full stop right now. Perhaps my fantasy one should be as well. If that was the entire goal of the dream, cool. I can deal with that. But YET ANOTHER story? I’m not sure if I should be happy or just throw a temper tantrum. Don’t I have enough novels to work on? Aren’t I overloaded enough?

I mean, I definitely don’t remember enough from the dream to start a story! I tried to write down my memories and it went something like ‘young pilot. Dark hair.’ to which I could add ‘lots of rivers and forest scenery’. And that’s it.

I feel like shaking my fist at the sky and shouting ‘That’s it? Come on! Give me a break!’

Not to say I don’t find this amusing. I feel a bit like a poor tortured artist who gets messed around with by the muses, and that’s kind of funny. And hey, I’d rather be told to take a break from a story rather than screw it up spectacularly. It’s just this whole ‘new story’ business that’s annoying me. I mean, I already have lots of stories to work on! Part of me wonders if I’ll ever finish anything, or if I’ll just end up with thousands of half-finished novels all over my grave.

Oh well. Does it matter, ultimately? I don’t think it does, but I feel it does, at least to me. I want to be able to finish my novels. And yet, I write so much faster and better when I’m compelled/inspired for a novel. So it’s a balance between ‘writing what’s inspiring’ and ‘getting shit done’.

I think, right now, I’m going to have to wait and see if I get any more dreams on this new story, or if I can at all write anything on it. If I can – that will be the least I’ve ever started a story on. But if I blend it with the other dreams, there might be enough material but gah! So confusing! Such a mess!

Anyways, I will keep y’all posted as I try and write. We shall see what happens! If we’re lucky, there may be a new story hatching!

Stay safe y’all 🙂

How to Write ~ Part 2

Writing! Oh, that mystical thing! How do we do it? People say there’s nothing to it, that it’s not magical, and I beg to differ.

Here’s the thing. Writing is, in itself, a craft. Much like knitting, it takes technique, practice, and experimenting with different techniques for someone to become fluent in it. But then what happens? You want to express something, and you create art.

See, a craft is meaningless, but it’s a gateway for the birth of art, which is meaningful.

So, you can have the world’s greatest idea, but without honing your craft first, you’re never going to be able to express that idea.

Alright, cool, we all want to make art. How do we do it?

If you’ve read the previous post, you now have an ‘idea’, and a ‘feel’. These are your precious nuggets of how you’re going to actually ‘write’.

Pretty much like knitting, writing is deceptively simple. You write. Duh. You stick words on paper/computer file. Wow, so artistic, you think.

But it’s not that simple. Writing, in my opinion, uses both the creative and logical parts of the brain, because it uses the logical side to write words, but the creative side to choose these words (I’m not a doctor here, this is just my theory okay?).

Now, here’s the thing. For me, there’s a ‘zone’ I get into when writing. It doesn’t feel like just sticking words on paper. Usually when I’m doing that, it turns out like crap. Stilted and blah. It isn’t art when I’m doing that. Why? I’d like to theorize that when I’m just sticking words onto paper, I’m not expressing the story, which is stored away in some spirit-bubble-dimension or what have you.

I like to think that good writing is like channeling a spirit, tapping into intuition. Something ‘clicks’ inside of you and the words flow. You get into the ‘feel’ and you intuitively choose the right words to create the art.

Alright, that’s all good and cool. We all want art, we all want ‘the magical flow’, so how do we get that?

Here’s another thing. It takes practice. Just like channeling (whether you believe in it or not), or even trance-work, you’re working on getting your brain to do a certain thing. Whether you’re taking an image/story bubble from within your mind or some spirit’s mind, you’re taking that story bubble/thoughtform and tapping into it, and then shooting it out your fingers onto the computer! Sort of. But you get the idea, don’t you?

One way I’ve found to express a story is to F&F. Forget the idea and Focus on the feel. Because unless you’re writing a textbook, the feel is what you’re immersing in. So, just for a moment, Forget about the ‘what’ and ‘how’. Forget all the technicalities and Focus on the ‘feel’. Think in images. Think in smells. Think (and here’s the real goal) in feelings. Express that feeling.

How the FUCK does one do that?

Well, let’s take get back to the apple and the knife cutting it. What ‘feeling’ does a knife give off, in this context? Is it destructive? Protective? A shield, a mental barrier, standing between an attacker and a defender? What color is it? What texture is it? Is it silver and glinting and sharply sparkling?

Sure, you can say that the knife is sharp and pointy. But if you transmit what it represents and the ‘feel’ of it in the story as a whole, you’re on to something.

Same goes for the apple, same goes for everything you write. Nothing in art is ever just an apple and a knife. It’s patriarchy versus matriarchy. It’s the industrial versus the farm. It’s steel against flesh. See where I’m going here? Everything can be so much more, and it’s this ‘so much more’ that you’re aiming for.

If you can do that, you’re well on your way to writing art.

Alright, so let’s talk concrete tips here.

Put music on that suits your theme. Are you writing rain and tragedy? Listen to rainy mood music. Put on incense that suits your intended ‘feel’. Heck, even get dressed up if it helps you. The point is: do anything that helps you get imitating that desired ‘feeling’. Once you’re in the mood imitating it, you can closer tap into the intended ‘feeling’.

Another tip that people say a lot is: write a lot. Write about anything and everything. Yeah, that’s great and all, but I’ve got another idea. Every day, try and write out your dreams.

Uh huh, not so easy, is it? Why? Because our dreams can sound silly and pointless, but when we were immersed in them, they carried so much ‘meaning’ and ‘feel’ to them. And that’s exactly what you’re wanting to get good at. If you can express the tragedy and terror of a nightmare, no matter the ridiculous premise of it, then you’re on to something.

Also, if you’re anything like me, you only half-remember your dreams. Writing these out and making them make sense is a great way to get used to tying ideas in together and ‘fill in the gaps’. This is also good memory practice, too.

Finally, dreams are connected to our intuition. I’m quite sure that writing out our dreams helps us tap into our subconscious or something like that. I think this could be mighty useful.

Now, I’m going to end these tips with one tip that I was told by a writing teacher, which I’ve honestly never tried but always thought was super cool: copy out another author’s work. Just that. Pick someone you want to write like, and copy out pages of their work.

If you struggle with getting a ‘feel’, this could be a way to gain one. The idea behind this is that you immerse into the ‘feel’ that the author created and, by copying it out, develop the mental pathways for those word choices. This will allow you to literally ‘think along those lines’ when trying to write your own works.

Ultimately, there is one final pointer I need to give you: -> Fuck It.

My best writing, my breakthroughs in tones, my great ideas, usually reveal themselves once I go ‘Fuck It!’ (with the exclamation mark) and just go with the flow and write whatever I want/feel for. It’s probably unorthodox, but I really stand by it. If you’re getting frustrated and feel like you’re reaching a breaking point, then just go ahead and break and see what happens next. Really, if art is what you’re aiming for, you’ve got to let the subconscious/mystical take over at some point.

How does one ‘Fuck It’? I don’t mean for anyone to get all violent and throw chairs at the walls. My ‘fuck it!’s are always quiet, internal affairs. I don’t lash out at anyone or start smoking or drinking or anything. In fact, – let it be known that I never write under influence of anything more than a light beer.

The art of ‘fuck it’ is really to just let go.  Let go of how you ‘think’ it should be, and just let it be it’s own thing. Really, that’s it. Stop thinking, and let the spirit move you. Let the story show itself to you instead of you creating it. Put your mind on the back burner and let the characters do their work.

It may sound like mystical mumbo jumbo, but that’s what works for me. I hope it works for you, too.

Thank you so much for reading my post! Do you feel like your writing is ‘channeling’/’tapping’ into something? Do you feel there is a mystical edge to the writing process? Let me know what you think!

As always, have a lovely day/evening. Much love to you all ❤

OMG- More Dream Material!

Last night, I went to bed as normal, and fell asleep as normal.  However! I woke up in the middle of the night (o woe, my muse doth sing at unwelcome hours!) with an IDEA!

Because, you see, I think I fell asleep thinking about how I wanted Chaos to have a nice dom, or something like that. Well! I woke up with a scene in my head of who the PERFECT dom would be! And this kept me up for several hours, just laying in bed and thinking about it.

Now, I don’t want to tell y’all who it is, because I’m worried it won’t work out and I don’t want to raise everyone’s hopes. However! This afternoon I went and napped with my wife and AGAIN! ANOTHER DREAM! This time of who the dom’s second in command/person who looks after Chaos if the first dom isn’t around would be. Oooooh * fans self * so much domming action. So much hotness.

This is maybe all fuelled by the fact that I met someone recently in the BDSM scene who spoke lengthily to me and my wife about their involvement in the scene and how it helps them balance their life, sort of thing. It was very interesting!

Now I just have to write the story, and hope that all the hotness I’ve imagined will come through on the screen. AH! I hope so.

Speaking of hot things, one thing that made my heart skip a beat today was that *dun dun dunnn * someone read part of “A Tale of Two Queens” on wattpad! And they saved it in a bookshelf named ‘amazing stories’ (or something like that). Sensing that they liked the story (and knowing that only about half has been posted and will ever be posted on wattpad), I asked them if they wanted to have a pdf of the novel. To which they said no, they wanted to pay for it!They then went on to tell me how much they liked the story.

My author’s heart melted into a squishy mess. *sobs happily* I know I have silent readers out there, but I’m a ‘glass half empty’ kind of person some days. I tend to beat myself up and feel like a failure. So yeah, this made my day.

So final note: thank you to all of you readers and friends who keep up with me. You make my life just a little bit more sparkly every day, with every like and comment and page view. Thank you, from the bottom of my squishy heart.
